While a job in IT may not top the list of jobs that come to mind when you think of 'meaningful work,' this couldn't be further from the truth. All organizations, whether public or private, rely on IT infrastructure to operate and thrive. Cloud computing makes simplifying and implementing this infrastructure more accessible than ever before.
Training and certification on technologies used by helping organizations allows you to impact people in many different ways, from changing the way they work and interact with their employers and teams, to changing their lives by helping provide access to clean water or social services that they need to survive.
In recent presentation, Elba Medina, Vice President, OU Latin America gave her philosophy on selling OU training and certification.
"If my customer is a hospital, I save lives through education and certification. If my customer is a government entity, I interact better with my citizens through education and certification."

With a burgeoning population, a quickly growing economy, miles of desert, and a large salt water border, United Arab Emirates (UAE) has struggled with access to clean, potable water for its citizens. Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), provides water for Sharjah, the third largest city in the UAE. They set a goal in 2017 to increase the availability of fresh water from 50 million gallons to 500 million gallons per day over the next five years and save 17 million gallons of water per day from being wasted.
SEWA looked to technology to help achieve this goal. It launched a digital platform to evaluate 450,000 water customers to pinpoint the biggest water users and identify sources of water waste. Data captured from the sensors is mapped to customer account records in SEWA’s Oracle Utilities Customer Care and Billing application, where it is analyzed and used to generate invoices, estimate service needs, and take steps to stem consumption or waste.
